blogenlust: All You Have To Do Is Ask
Unfortunately, though, instead of using Gage's article as a starting block for a discussion on blogs and journalism, many conservative bloggers have turned to attacking Gage and impugning her credibility. Some examples are here, here, and here. Hinderaker even went so far as to call Gage a "miscreant" and criticized her for not elaborating on who she contacted and what information she found in order to conclude that there wasn't any factual basis to the story.
Several points:
- Gage IS a miscreant. Slander is inexcusable, especially in repeated instances; especially baseless remarks like those Ms. Gage made.
- Not naming your lesser-known sources IS suspicious. It's two different things when a reporter draws information from "a senior White House official" and a columnist calls up "a few people." If one doesn't name one's sources, one can make absolutely ridiculous statements. That's the point of using sources in the first place; it gives your arguments credibility.
- It's hard to "start a conversation about blogs and journalism" when the person who begins the conversation is making slanderous remarks. Ms. Gage's remarks aren't meant in the least to be constructive; they're meant to question the credibility of Power Line.
- Illegal voter registration is a problem, and an issue that's being employed by certain parties. Many liberals are calling the right's moves to investigate suspicious voter registration "racist" or "discriminatory," which they're not in any way; they help to protect the rights of those who do have the right to vote.
That concludes my arguments against "blogenlust's" case. Oh, and thank goodness for ref="nofollow;" this way, I don't boost blogenlusts's PageRank.
I love how you say "Gage IS a Miscreant", and then follow it up with, "Slander is inexcusable."
Anyway, that's not much of an argument, and frankly I don't care if you boost my traffic by one or two hits.

Wrong answer on your part.
Ms. Gage has made slanderous remarks about the Power Line bloggers. Thus, to say she has committed slander does not mean that I have committed slander.
Oh, and the Power Line bloggers are lawyers; I think they have a pretty idea of just what slander is.
Also, at the end, you don't care, but I do. That's why I'm not giving you any extra PageRank. It's not to compliment you in the least.
